Session Live January 12th 2006

The Session Live was held at the Annex on the 12th of January and was hosted by Mazta I, a very outspoken EMCEE with attention grabbing lyrics and a great personality to match, he introduced the audience to a diverse group of artists.

Some of the artists were nice and actually stood out (in a good way), some were decent (you know, nothing to write home about), and some made me face the horrible reality that music is not about quality anymore...but hey whatever works for ya! Young Bookie'sact really got my attention, he got the crowd going by interacting with them, he kept his show moving and didnt play his whole cd (he applied the law of snippets*).

Melody Beats' show was cool, one of the members was so hyper on stage and really into the music...it was cute. (I hate going to a show and watching the performer act like he's bored with his own music) They had some of their crew members pass out cds during their performance (very smart!) I got a copy of the cd and I plan on listening to it soon. Ray Banderaz had a mixtape feel to his show and actually applied the law of mixtapes*, lyrical content was nice and he picked hot beats from well known songs and added a spin to it.

Young Truth's beats were nice, didnt really get into his lyrics though maybe I'll catch another performance or listen to his cd. However, I did fall in love with Lirica Secreta, a reggaethon group with members from all over the world...well, I cant remember where exactly. I do remember they have this cat from Cuba, and he was captivating because he was so passionate or was it angry? couldn't understand a word they were saying but I loved them.

They are a little chaotic but you know what? it works for them. Hopefully, they can switch the chaos for organized chaos (yes, there is a difference). I got a chance to meet with Rico Nevotion, an R&B solo vocalist with a very sweet voice and a wonderful story to tell. This artist shows a lot of promise so watch out for him.

The show was cool, it was nice meeting all the artists I mentioned and it gave me a chance to hang out with Trama, Mysnikol, and One Dynamic Broad. You should check out the next show on the 9th of February. If you have any questions about the show, dont ask me! Ask Special Dark.

A quick synopsis of the laws mentioned earlier (These laws are very detailed!) * Law of Snippets - (usually works for new indie artists) usually the crowd might not be too familiar with the artists work, so to avoid boring them the artist should hit them with snippets. Make sure the snippets flows well and the show mix is properly put together. You can always ask around if you need help arranging it. * Law of Mixtapes- if you're going to make use of beats utilized by well known artists, make sure you can work with it. (Theres nothing worse than hearing a horrible rendition of a very good song) **HipHopClub and the artists mentioned in this Article are not responsible for the ideas and opinions expressed by the author... Peace!!***
