In
ancient Rome, a Heiruspec was a high priest who foretold the future.
Today, Heiruspecs are a live hip-hop band that is the future. Based in
Minneapolis, Heiruspecs (high-roo-spex) recently released its sophomore
album, 'Small Steps.' Making giant steps in the live hip-hop arena,
Heiruspecs have set necks snapping nationwide and 'Small Steps' has earned
the band loads of critical acclaim -- the album was voted as one of the
Top 20 records of 2002 by the Star Tribune, and Heiruspecs have also been
written up in such magazines as Jane and URB. Heiruspecs is consistently
cited as one of the most promising acts in the thriving Midwest hip-hop
scene. Performing with such acts as Jurassic 5, Busta Rhymes, Anti-Pop
Consortium, the White Stripes and Mason Jennings, Heiruspecs has also
served as backing band for Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Oddjobs
and Typical Cats. Heiruspecs formed while the members were in a high
school recording arts program at St. Paul Central high school. The year
was 1997. Twinkiejiggles would play bass while four or five drummers
would rotate in and out of freestyle sessions, and Felix would rhyme
throughout the whole process. Twinkiejiggles bass lines can also be heard
on the Tony Hawk Street Skater bideo, and on a track by Eyedea and
Abilities. Heiruspecs has put out several records. The first release
was a cassette only called Live from the Studio. The next release was the
Antidisestablishmetabolism full length, two live CDs: Heiruspecs + Typical
Cats + Oddjobs Live at the Bryant Lake Bowl and Sad Clown Dub, a live CD
backing Atmosphere. Their most recent full-length is called Small Steps
There new record, A Tiger Dancing, will be released September 28 on Razor
& Tie Records. HipHopClub has had a chance to preview the Album and
well say one thing these boys got skills. Heiruspecs We'll be touring
throughout the country when A Tiger Dancing is released, so be sure
