.: --Dialek  "POST TRAUMATIC STRESS SYNDROME"

Yo give some people insight as to who you are?
Well, I’m a 25 year old black male who has a serious love for music. I’ve been writing rhymes consistently since I was 12, and my dedication to the Hip Hop culture has given me the opportunity to experience so many great things. I feel very blessed.

What city are you from?
St.Paul, Minnesota. For those of you who don’t know, it’s the coldest place on earth!
You are in a group called Purest Form what is the history on the group?
We actually became an official group about 2 years ago. To make a long story short, I grew up with Andy(A-ron) and Marc(DJ Suede). I met Alex(Alibi) and Anthony(A-quil) when I was in High School. We all share a similar vision for the direction we would like our music to go and that is ultimately what brought us together. Our mission statement is: A group of conscious individuals, dedicated to preserving the true essence of the Hip Hop culture, by representing it in its Purest Form.

"Dialek" Is there a story behind that name does it mean something?
Yeah, my parents are originally from Mobile Alabama. Since I’ve lived here my entire life the importance of speaking “proper grammar” or “correct English” was always stressed in my classes at school. But whenever my relatives would come around, or I would read a book that contained southern dialect, I always understood it right away. So I just decided to use that name in order to show my respect for the language style and the dialect that originated in the south. It’s a shame that none of my teachers ever acknowledged the fact that most black folks developed certain slang to easily communicate with each other during slavery and shortly after. English is a difficult language to learn, and even though some people might not speak like a college professor 24/7, it doesn’t mean that they are less intelligent. As long as their thoughts can be understood, who cares if it’s ‘proper’ or not?
What made you decide to do a solo Project?
The main reason is because even though I’m in a group, I was a solo artist way before I started making music with anyone else. I have so many things that I want to accomplish on my own, and the only way for my creative vision to be fully understood is by giving the listener a considerable amount of solo material.

What can people expect from this cd?
People can expect to have their minds twisted and bent to the point of no return. I am definitely raising the bar in terms of lyricism, production, concepts, and approach when it comes to making music. The concept for this album basically relates to a life changing experience. After listening to it, you might not be able to completely grasp the specifics, but you won’t be able to deny its’ impact.

Describe your style talk a little about your music?
First and foremost I am a writer. When I write rhymes, I always make sure that my lyrics are clear and concise without being too simplistic. The mc’s that have always inspired me to improve have been people like Rakim, KRS-ONE, Nas, Jay-Z, Royce Da 5’9..people who push the limits of lyricism without sacrificing their message. As far as music, I would hate to ever get to the point where I had a signature sound. The challenge is always making your music sound new, and searching for different ways to use sounds to enhance the production.

What are you’re future plans as a solo artist?
In the near future I would like to do a few shows with DJ suede to promote my album. Writing has always been a part of my life so I’m sure that will continue. Ummm, hopefully I can just continue to grow through my music, and reach a large number of people in the process.

Who would you like to work with locally and other?
I would love to work with this artist out of North Carolina named Supastition. He’s one of the only artists out there right now who I feel really shares the same vision for this Hip Hop culture. Locally, I wouldn’t mind working with Sarah White from Traditional Methods. I respect her whole style as an artist.

Do you think First Ave closing is gonna have an impact on the MN HipHop scene?
Not really. I’m sad to see it go because there were a lot of great shows held there, and it’s a definitely a monumental place, but people in the local scene are pretty persistent. Somewhere else will just become the new spot.

Where can people get more info on you and where can they get your music?
People can check out www.purestform.com. My album “Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome” and Purest Form “The Perfect Balance” are available from the site. “The Perfect Balance” is also available at Electric Fetus, all Cheapo locations, 5th Element, and CD Warehouse in Dinkytown.
