HHC: Give us a little history on UP?
UP: Big Jess & MaD Son met at Edison high school and formed Unknown Prophets in 1997. We recruited Willy Lose shortly after.
HHC: How did you come up with Unknown Prophets for your name?
UP: SoN came up with it. Unknown being not known and Prophets because we have uplifting/spiritual meaning.
Prophet:
A person who speaks by divine inspiration or as the interpreter through whom the will of a god is expressed.
A person gifted with profound moral insight and exceptional powers of expression.
A predictor; a soothsayer.
The chief spokesperson of a movement or cause.
HHC: How many members are in UP?
UP: Three: Big Jess, MaD SoN, Willy Lose.

HHC: How did you guys come together?
UP: Big Jess & MaD Son met at Edison high school and formed Unknown Prophets in 1997. We recruited Willy Lose shortly after.
HHC: Who are your influences?
UP: Special Ed, Slick Rick, Common, LL Cool J, Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye, Tupac, Biggie, list goes on forever.
HHC: What's the first release UP put out?
UP: The Prophecy tape only release in 1998.
HHC: How Many albums has UP done?
UP: The Prophecy (1998), World Premier (2000), Now You Know (2002), The W.E.T. EP (2003)
HHC: Have you guys put out solo albums as well?
UP: Willy Lose: What You Got On My 40? (2002), MaD SoN: Peace Amongst The MaDness (2004), Big Jess: Good Clean Fun! (2004), Big Jess: GCF2: theSuperJumpOff (2005)
HHC: What's the main difference being a solo artist compared to being in a group?
UP: Being solo you can do whatever you want. Group stuff you have to see eye to eye, or at least compromise.
HHC: Give us the Unknown Prophets vision, whats your future plans?
UP: Bigger steps, bigger moves. The Road Less Traveled is our 3rd full-length LP and is coming this winter...Feb. 2006. We'll be backed by a label on this project.
HHC: Where have you guys done shows in and out of the twin cities?
UP: New York, Colorado, Maine, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Wyoming, Maryland, Illinois.
HHC: What part of MN are you guys from?
UP: Jess and SoN (Northeast Minneapolis), Willy (St.Paul)
HHC: How long have you guys been on the MN hip Hop Scene?
UP: Grindin since 1998.
HHC: What is your opinion of the MN Hip Hop Scene?
UP: Pretty good, but way too many emcees.
HHC: What can be done to make the MN Hip Hop Scene better for all artists in the scene?
UP: Less shows, keep people anticipating.
HHC: Do you think the local radio stations give enough air time to local artists?
UP: It's not bad...we get some good airplay.
HHC: Who locally and nationally have you guys worked with?
UP: Slug, Brother Ali, DJ Abilities, Eyedea, Musab, Try-D, Glo Pesci, manCHILD, Stokely of Mint Condition, Joia Senser, Kanser, DisputeOne, Random Thoughts, Mohs...to name a few.
HHC: What sets UP aside from other Hip Hop Acts?
UP: Conscious rappers with a positive message. We don't follow the trends, we set them.
HHC: What has been the biggest sacrifice you have had to make for your dream?
UP: Tryig to balance music with real life...marriage, parenting, jobs.
HHC: What are your goals when you make a song/album?
UP: To say something that will transend boundaries. To uplift. To make people think. To erase stereotypes of hip-hop.
HHC: What can people get from your music?
UP: Knowledge, hope, happiness, meaning.
HHC: Anything else you guys want to say?
